The Republic of Gabon is a country in Central West Africa, with an area of ??267,667 square kilometers, and a population of 2226,000, according to the United Nations average for 2020.
It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon to the north, and the Republic of the Congo to the east and south.
It gained its independence on August 17, 1960 from France. The largest city is Libreville which is also its capital. The official language of the state is French and as of October 16, 2009, Ali Bongo IV has taken over as President of Gabon.
Its longest-serving president, Omar Bongo, passed away in Spain in June 2009.
The life expectancy of the entire population, according to 2016 estimates by the World Health Organization was 66.4 years (64.8 years for men and 68.2 years for women).
